What does bilingualism really look like, or should I say "sound" like? Watch my son, Mic, as he shows you how a truly bilingual person negotiates more than one language - AT THE SAME TIME!
What is really interesting about bilingualism is that we Brazilians and Americans don't often get to see it in action; our countries are generally monolingual, with a few pockets of bilingualism found in certain cultures and communities. But on the whole, we're lucky if we can speak one language well enough!!
This little video shows you a little about my reality with a truly bilingual person learning two languages at the same time. The very serious pro is that research has shown that people who learn and speak more than one language tend to be more intelligent and use their brain more than those who are not bilingual. The con is that my wife and I have no secret language to use to talk about him when he is in the room. Oh, well. I'll go with the bigger brain any time!!
